Tina Siebert for 2027 Missouri REALTORS® Treasurer-Elect - Advocacy Experience

Hi!

My first real experience with REALTOR® advocacy was in 2016 when I was involved in the state wide campaign for No Taxes on Services.

Meeting with Elected Officials

After that I started attending Missouri REALTORS® Advocacy days in Jefferson City. I was able to be Rep Donna Baringer's State Political Coordinator. Last year I was chosen to be Rep Nick Kimble's State Political Coordinator. I have also been asked to join the Advocacy Day for Greater St Louis Inc (STL Regional economic discussions). As an Association, our reputation as being well informed, strong membership and the reach out to our clients and other neighbors for issues important to our members and public is second to none. This is because we work hard in every corner of Missouri and we are steady with our members and message.

On the Federal level I have been able to attend last few National Association of REALTORS® Legislative days. That has been a great experience. Our Advocacy on the Federal Level is again respected by our elected officials.

** Fun story - I often head confidently in the wrong direction and a couple of years ago we were totally lost in the Capital offices. When Rep Maxine Waters came out of her office and asked us if we were lost. :) I told her I was from St Louis Missouri and she told me she was born there as well. Rep Waters actually still has a lot of her siblings still living in St Louis. She was nice enough to let us walk her to the elevator and she helped us get to the right floor for our visit.

On the local level I have been asked to be on a few City wide task forces and lobbying groups over the years.

In 2017, I was asked by the Mayor of St Louis to be part of a 13-member Citizen Advisory Committee to help find a replacement for the St Louis Metropolitan Police Chief. From the St Louis American Newspaper: "The committee will help shape the structure of the search, provide input on what the search should look like and give the city feedback along the way, according to the statement. Mayor Krewson also envisions the committee drafting the formal job description for a new police chief, incorporating different community groups into the search process and deciding whether to hire a professional search firm, she said." We had 10 meetings and several community input sessions. We also were part of the final interviewing process of the top 5 candidates.

I am a member of the St Louis Housing Solutions Coalition - This is a multiple group organization of housing providers, non-profit CDCs and other groups who are focused on housing solutions in the STL Metro area. In the past couple of years we have met with elected St Louis City officials to talk about legislation they have thought about bringing to committee at the Board of Alderman. The dialog has been really productive as the approach has been how to do we keep the good landlords but create rules for the bad actors. We also put together a symposium for all area housing related fields and government officials to discuss the white paper the St Louis REALTORS® with support of the National Association of REALTORS® put together. As this was the year I was President of the St Louis REALTORS® I was able to emcee the event.

We brought together Dan Sullivan, Housing Stabilization Program Manager at Action Housing in Pittsburgh, as well as Rachel Mulbry, Director of Policy & Strategic Initiatives for the Philadelphia Housing Development Corporation. Also had a panel of local leaders, including Dillon Holliam of SLDC, Todd Swanstrom, Professor at UMSL, and Constance Siu of North Newstead Association. At the event, we released a white paper on a rental improvement fund that touches on the home repair network. St Louis has an aging housing stock with a good amount from the 1880's through the 1940's as the majority of homes in St Louis City.

I will continue my Advocacy passion in my journey in Missouri REALTORS® leadership so please vote for me as your 2027 Missouri REALTORS® Treasurer-Elect.
